Zigzagging its way from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon and Washington the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) boasts the greatest elevation changes of any of America's National Scenic Trails, allowing it to pass through six out of seven of North America's eco-zones including high and low desert, old-growth forest and arctic-alpine country. The PCT has become a favorite trail for thru-hikers and thru-riders - that's horse and mule riders - and not for bikes! The PCT was built mainly by volunteers. Today, the annual maintenance and reconstruction of the PCT continues to be a major undertaking... from removing blow-downs and repairing wash-outs to cutting back chaparral, PCTA trail crews do it all.
