The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club was officially incorporated in 1927 and is now the third largest trail organization on the East Coast. Actually, three quarters of PATC trails are unrelated to the Appalachian Trail. Volunteers are the backbone, heart, soul, mind, and muscle of the PATC. With volunteer effort, PATC maintains 1200 miles of trails. The club coordinates its activities on the Appalachian Trail with both the Appalachian Trail Park Office and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. State agencies in Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Virgina assist the club with trail management in their respective areas. Use the menu links provided in the Volunteer Page to learn more about the variety of PATC volunteer opportunities.
