The Georgia Appalachian Trail Club, Inc. (GATC) was organized in 1930 and is a voluntary association of individuals whose primary responsibility is the management and maintenance of the Appalachian Trail in Georgia. This is accomplished in cooperation with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) and the US Forest Service. The Trail in Georgia extends some eighty miles through the primitive areas of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Rising at times to elevations over 4400 feet, the Trail offers unlimited hiking adventure of exceptional challenge and variety. To become an an active member you must attend three GATC-sponsored activites over a 12-month period: one New Member's Orientation Meeting, one trail maintenance trip, and one or more GATC activities. Contact the Membership Director: mem_dir@georgia-atclub.org. The GATC publishes and activites schedule early in the year and it can be seen Here.
